Asian Australasian Society of Neurological Surgeons

The Asian Australasian Society of Neurological Surgeons (AASNS) was founded in 1967 as the continental society for the Asian-Australasian region, and today it is the world’s largest continental neurosurgical society. The membership includes over 25,000 neurosurgeons from more than 28 neurosurgical societies in Asia and the Pacific region -being “60% of the world’s neurosurgeons caring for 60% of the world’s population!”

The main Congress of the Society occurs every four years, with the last being in Mumbai, India in 2019 and the next taking place in Jerusalem, Israel in September 2022. Each year the Society holds Interim Meetings as well as numerous teaching courses and workshops throughout the Asian Australasian region. The Society is regularly invited to be an official Guest Society at meetings of the American Association of Neurosurgeons and the European Association of Neurosurgeons.
The Society is committed to the following purposes:

  • To improve the education, management, teaching, and research in all aspects of neurosurgery
  • To develop, promote, and coordinate international teaching programs throughout the Asian – Australian region
  • To advise and guide regional societies to finance a greater level and range of activities
  • To foster the development of an international communications system by encouraging the regional activities of organizations
  • To increase and enable the interactions of neurosurgeons from member countries
